not just authority

The leader of Gotei 13-Tai, Shigekuni Genryuusai Yamamoto, is more than just a scary-looking old man. He might look difficult to get close to, but I believe him to be a kind "grandfather" deep down: with a sight as sharp as the eagle, he knows how to make a fellow Shinigami's day better.

The most recent HitsuHina reunion is a good showcase of Yamamoto's softer side. Under ordinary circumstances, Hinamori shouldn't have been allowed to speak with Hitsugaya: with such an unstable mental state, Hinamori couldn't possibly have been a positive influence to Hitsugaya in any way, especially when Hitsugaya was in a mission that preferred zero distraction. However, Yamamoto made his decision otherwise. Instead of calculating how much could Hinamori affect Hitsugaya's work, the old man chose to let the younger ones do what they wanted the most: Hinamori to make her mournful apology, Hitsugaya to get one worry off his mind - to know that the girl he cares for the most is finally awake. Although Yamamoto had to interrupt their reunion when Hinamori started going back to her paranoid self, he didn't hide his concern for Hitsugaya when the latter had a painful expression on his face.

Maybe I'm overanalyzing, but I was very touched by Yamamoto's brief kindness. This at least shows that he's a supporter of Hitsugaya and Hinamori's relationship, right?
